Director Penny Marshall's tribute to the first women's baseball
league is a nice little movie that runs out of steam a bit in the
last 45 minutes. Geena Davis is suburb as "the natural"
who finds herself caught in a battle of wills with sister/pitcher
Lori Petty and the team's rummy coach, Tom Hanks, a one-time
baseball great. The comedy bits by Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell,
Megan Cavanaugh, and (seen all to briefly) Jon Lovitz help to
buoy the film's melodramatic plot line..
